1. Literary techniques: idiom (“frozen tree”), simile, metaphor, alliteration used to convey stillness and tension; structure slowing pace (short sentences, paragraph breaks)
2. Character and emotion: wolf’s sadness over lost she-wolf, growing awareness of boy, emotional climax through punctuation (ellipsis, colon, hyphen) and sensory description
3. Setting and enclosure critique: inadequate space for the wolf illustrated by confinement imagery, frustration and sadness expressed through behaviour and internal thoughts
4. Text structure: chapter breaks for tension shifts, chapter openings focused on wolf’s state or changing perspective, final calm created via soothing language and tone
5. Inference and opinion: choosing wolf′s character trait (mentally strong or not), quotation-based evidence, identifying whose perspectives are presented in the story
6. Creative writing: origin story of wolf or boy, including background, past events, and how they arrived at the enclosure, evaluated for narrative skill, coherence, creativity, and grammar (25 marks)
