Progression Test Stage 7 English as a Second Language 2024 Paper 3

1. Part 1 – Functional writing: informal message inviting friend (Tom) to play a new game, including game description, invitation, and time suggestion, word limit 35–45 words
2. Tone and audience: friendly, casual register suitable for peer-to-peer communication, clear intention and timing
3. Part 2 – Creative narrative writing: story beginning with “Helen opened the envelope and she couldn’t believe what she found inside”, requiring plot development, suspense or surprise element, and clear resolution within 90–110 words
4. Language skills: grammar accuracy, sentence variety, paragraph structure, effective punctuation and vocabulary usage
5. Story structure: logical sequence (beginning, middle, end), character motivation and reaction, concise storytelling
6. CEFR A2–B1 level objectives: expressing ideas clearly, developing a short narrative, functional and creative writing competence, audience engagement through tone and clarity
